Liverpool have slipped out of their temporary dip in form to go second in the Premier league with a vital 3-1 away win against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
A controversial shoulder goal and a Luis Suarez tap in put the away side in a commanding position by half-time. The Black Cats came out strong for the second half and found a goal back with relative ease through Emanuele Giaccherini.
A season or two ago, Liverpool would have conceded the equaliser the home crowd were hoping for. The Reds, though, defended well and shut Sunderland out with effective counter-attacking, leading to the Suarez goal in the dying minutes. Liverpool have become accustomed of late to not conceding many goals, a quintessential must if they are to stay where they are all season long.
With both Manchester threats tasting bitter defeat this weekend and Tottenham drawing against Chelsea, a very impressive Arsenal stand in the Merseysiders' way in the race for Champions League football or more.
Liverpool will be hoping that it is Manchester United who drop out of the Champions League places, allowing them to snap up the pieces that were held for so long under Sir Alex Ferguson.
It will not be easy, though, as this season sees six teams seem convinced that they will be one of the teams in the top four. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will be drilling confidence into his team as the Reds look for glory they know they are capable of achieving,
especially in this campaign after such an impressive start.
With a tinkering here and there, most definitely in defence, the Reds will finish in the top half of the table and spark excitement for many fans, Scousers or not. One more month of form like
this and Liverpool will be title contenders, no matter who keeps up with them. Reds fans will hope in their hearts that their players can perform and provide, because the time of walking alone without Champions League football is coming to an end.
