Napoli owner Auerelio de Laurentiis has revealed that Manchester City did make an offer for Edinson Cavani, but it fell well short of their valuation of the Uruguayan.
De Laurentiis told Sky Sports News that Manchester City made a £29million bid for the Uruguayan earlier this summer- which is almost half of what PSG eventually paid for the striker.
Then manager Carlo Ancelotti paid £53million for the prized striker before he left PSG for Real Madrid towards the end of the transfer widow.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, De Laurentiis said: "Cavani, Manchester City visited me in Rome. But they just offered, I don't remember exactly but around £35 million (euros) so I didn't accept- there was a high level of interest."
City instead eventually opted to bring in the likes of Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic, and now boast an incredibly strong frontline.
De Laurentiis's Napoli travel to the Emirates Stadium tonight where they will face Arsene Wenger's in-form Arsenal in their Champions League qualifier.
And the Napoli owner is under the impression that his side will not have an easy ride in England.
"It is very tough as the Gunners are very strong, we met them last August but it will be a different game. We play without fear so I hope it is a good game," he added.
The Gunners will surely pose a significant threat, with their form being exceptional over the last few weeks. Arsene Wenger's side currently sit top of the Premier League following their weekend win over Swansea.
