Samir Nasri believes Bayern Munich are a force to be reckoned with once again this season.
The French midfielder, has been in decent form himself so far this campaign, most notably scoring in his side's 4-1 demolition of arch-rivals Manchester United last month.
And, Bayern will be welcomed to the Etihad Stadium tonight for a Champions League group stage tie with confidence high, despite defeat at the weekend.
The Citizens suffered a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa, but have been much more impressive at home.
Whilst Nasri is well aware of the difficulty Bayern pose, he admits it is the perfect opportunity for his side to see where they are at and bounce back from Saturday's disappointing reverse.
"Bayern are defending champions. In the last four years, they’ve played in three finals. That’s extraordinary," Nasri told the official Bundesliga website.
"They’re a force to be reckoned with yet again this season. This game is an opportunity for us to see where we’re at."
City got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start by beating Viktoria Plzen 4-0 a fortnight ago.
The 26-year-old former Arsenal midfielder believes this is a game where City can show they mean business in this season's competition, and make another step-up following the victory in the Czech Republic.
"Both teams won their first games. Whoever wins this one will certainly have a psychological advantage during the rest of the group campaign," said the Frenchman.
"For us it’s about showing that we mean business this season."
Nasri was at Olympigue de Marseille before he made the switch to the Premier League in 2008, but the midfielder has also revealed that he was close to joining the German champions before he moved to the Emirates Stadium.
"Back in 2005-06 when I think Felix Magath was coach. There was concrete contact, but the transfer didn’t come off," concluded Nasri.
