Former Arsenal stalwart Nigel Winterburn has praised Arsenal following their 2-0 win over Serie A giants Napoli, labelling the Gunners' performance as "superb".

Arsenal, who currently sit top of the Premier League table after a simply fantastic spell of form during the current domestic campaign, exercised large spells of dominance over their Italian counterparts and eased to a 2-0 victory courtesy of first-half goals from new signing Mesut Ozil and formidable French striker Olivier Giroud.

49-year-old Winterburn, who represented the North London outfit for a total of 13 years between 1987-2000, was evidently impressed by Arsene Wenger's side who now sit at the summit of Group F.

"That first half was the best I've seen Arsenal play in a long time," the former England international told talkSPORT.

"The game was dead at half-time. It was a superb performance."

Arsenal, who will face a potentially difficult test against Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund in their next European outing at the Emirates Stadium on October 22, return to domestic action on Sunday when they will look to extend their early lead in the title race at The Hawthorns against Steve Clarke's West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies, who had endured a rather troubled start to the new campaign, will have been significantly boosted by last weekend's highly-impressive 2-1 victory over David Moyes' Manchester United at Old Trafford.
