Lewis Holtby says that he is looking forward to playing alongside Jermain Defoe and hopes to provide the striker with the ammunition to fire Tottenham to victory against Anzhi Makhachkala tonight.

The pair are expected to be named in the starting line up to take on Anzhi in the Europa League in Moscow and Holtby, who arrived from Schalke in January, says he has already established a rapport with Defoe - and wants to show just that tonight.

“One of my key strengths is to set up the strikers and that is one of the main reasons why Tottenham bought me,” said the German international.

“I link up with Jermain and the other forward very well so I hope against Anzhi I can do similar things if I get the chance. The main thing for us is to win.

Defoe and Holtby combined well to help Spurs get their Europa League campaign up and running with a 3-0 win over Tromso last month, the Spurs playmaker is confident that they can maintain their winning start tonight.

“If you see the group, we have to be confident with the aims and the qualities we have," he said.

"We’ve had a very good unbeaten run and the result against Chelsea was okay. We’re near the top of the Premier League and in the Europa League we’ve already got off the mark.

“So we’re full of confidence as we prepare for this game but it’s going to be tough. We have to be up for it.”
