Arsenal favourites to land United target

Arsenal have been installed as bookmakers favourites to sign Manchester United midfield target Cesc Fabregas.

Paddy Power have slashed the Gunners’ odds on bringing the player back to the Emirates Stadium, with the bookies making the north London club 5/6 favourites in the race for the Spanish player.

The Barcelona star has featured in some important games for Barcelona this season, with the 26-year-old scoring a vital header for Gerardo Martino’s side in the Champions League at Celtic on Tuesday.

However, that hasn’t stopped speculation over a return to the Premier League, and Fabregas has openly praised the arrival of Mesut Ozil at the Emirates Stadium.

"His style is nailed on for Arsenal. It's a league with a lot more spaces and he is a player that, with [such] spaces, can kill you,” he told Al Primer Toque.

"We have seen it with Real Madrid. He has a brilliant final ball and in the Premier he will enjoy it a lot."

Arsenal were linked with a move for the player during the summer transfer window, and whilst Arsene Wenger ruled out a move at the time, the significant change in the betting market is likely to lead to more intense transfer speculation.

How the news will impact Manchester United is up for debate, after new manager David Moyes failed in his efforts to bring the player to Old Trafford in the summer.

Indeed, the Scot struggled to land any of his major targets after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm, and whilst reports claimed the Red Devils were willing to offer £40million for the player in a final effort to lure him away from the Nou Camp, they had to settle for Marouane Fellaini.

The Premier League champions have subsequently made a slow start to the season, and if Fabregas does become available, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United look to challenge for his signature.
