Chelsea & Arsenal dealt blow over Pogba

Chelsea and Arsenal have been dealt a transfer blow in the race to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus.

The French international was linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window, with both Arsenal and Chelsea reported to be targeting the French international.

Indeed, the 20-year-old admitted that both the Gunners and Blues had tried to sign him in the past, before making the move to Juventus.

However, his first season at the Juventus Stadium was a success, and now the Serie ‘A’ winner is in-line for a new deal alongside some of the team’s other top players.

"At this time we are going to revisit the contracts of many players who have proven their talent and met our expectations. This covers even those whose contracts are still a long way off from expiring, including Marchisio and Chiellini," said general manager Giuseppe Marotta, according to Sky Sports.

"With Vidal, there is no problem. He is still our player who, despite the sirens ringing outside calling his departure, still wants to stay with the club and we are delighted with his commitment. The same can be said for Pogba."

Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, is certainly raving about the player’s ability, whacking a €200million price-tag on his client after claiming he’s worth twice as much as Gareth Bale. The Welshman joined Real Madrid for €100million.

“How much is Paul worth? Without a doubt: twice as much as Bale,” said Raiola back in August.

Pogba made a controversial move to Manchester United back in 2009, leaving Le Havre in France for Old Trafford.

However, first team opportunities were hard to come by under Sir Alex Ferguson, and the youngster left the Red Devils for Italy in the summer of 2012.

After featuring 38 times in all competitions last term, teams in England once again took note of the player’s potential, with the capital pair two interested parties.

Arsene Wenger has plenty of experience bringing young players to the Emirates Stadium, and Pogba could have been next on the list of French starlets to join the Arsenal ranks.

However, a switch to the Gunners wasn’t forthcoming, and instead they added Mesut Ozil to the ranks in north London.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have spent big to bring top young players to Stamford Bridge in recent times.

Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne, Oscar and Marco Van Ginkel are just four players to move to west London either before or during the reign of Jose Mourinho, as ‘the special one’ looks to leave a lasting legacy for Blues owner Roman Abramovich.

Adding Pogba to the Chelsea squad now seems like a long-shot however, and the club may have to look elsewhere in the January transfer window.
