Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has today revealed his disappointment on missing out on French international Loic Remy.
The striker has got five league goals for Newcastle already this season - but opted to join Queens Park Rangers over Pardew's side in January.
Remy was unbelievably close to joining the Magpies but went on to join QPR, who went on to be relegated, for a club record fee of around £12.3 million. Remy has since gone on to join the Magpies on loan from Harry Redknapp's side and has enjoyed a bright start to the season.
However, Pardew wishes they would have signed Remy on a permanent basis in January.
'I wish he would have joined in January', Pardew has been quoted as saying.
Remy's most recent performance was fantastic. The forward scored both goals for Newcastle in a 2-1 win away to Cardiff, a win which was much needed after back to back defeats in the Premier League.
Remy has scored five of Newcastle's 12 league goals this season, in which the other seven goals have to been scored by Frenchmen.
Pardew is keen to keep Remy after his loan spell finishes too.
'It was interesting to read Harry Redknapp's comments that he probably won't be going back, but we will have to see'.
Remy himself does not have any regrets about not joining Newcastle in January.
'I don't regret not joining in January. I decided to join QPR in January, but it was a choice to join Newcastle after QPR went down'.
If Remy does keep up his goal scoring form throughout the season, then Newcastle will definitely be looking to secure the player on a more permanent basis.
