Manchester City defender Micah Richards has insisted he will not beg for another chance with England.

Richards was asked to be on standby for the squad that travelled to Poland and Ukraine for Euro 2012 but turned down the offer in favour of a place in the Great Britain Olympics squad.

Since then, Richards hasn't been involved in a single squad but the 25-year-old insists he won't ask for another chance.

He's quoted in the Guardian saying: "I'm not going to beg for him to pick me, I'm not some sort of charity case. If he needs me I will be there because everyone wants to play for their country."

Richards, who is currently finding it tough to earn a spot in Manuel Pellegrini's starting eleven, was left with a tough decision to make, but eventually opted to be one of Stuart Pearce's three over-aged players.

He said:  "It was one of those where Stuart Pearce asked me to go to the Olympics and not go on standby [for Euro 2012]. If I went on standby I might not have made the Olympics and that was one of the highlights of my career."

Richards shot onto the international scene in November 2006, becoming England's youngest ever defender when he started a friendly against Holland at the age of 18 years and 144 days.

The City man has only managed to gain another 12 caps and finds himself stuck on unlucky 13 and having not featured for England since a friendly, which Stuart Pearce took charge of, in February 2012, ironically also against Holland.

Despite his lengthy absence, Richards remains philosophical about his chances of pulling on the Three Lions shirt again, he said: "I always take it as it comes. I have not been involved for two years. Stuart Pearce gave me a game when he got it, I want to play for my country and I would be happy if I did."
