Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has revealed that he was tentatively approached by Chelsea over their managerial vacancy in the summer before Jose Mourinho was appointed.

The "Special One" returned to Stamford Bridge during the summer having originally departed in 2007.

Laudrup meanwhile impressed in his first season in the Premier League last time round and guided Swansea to the Capital One Cup - beating Chelsea along the way.

The former Barcelona player has improved on his work last season and led the Swans to an impressive victory over Valencia in the Europa League last month.

Speaking to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Laudrup revealed that representatives working on behalf of Chelsea made contact over the vacancy at Stamford Bridge over the summer.

‘Someone tried to know my availability through intermediaries, but there was nothing concrete,’ he said.

‘Also, I had given my word that I would be in Swansea.’

Mourinho went on to get his old job back eventually, although it has not all been plain sailing for the Portuguese coach.

Three straight defeats consigned Chelsea to their worst start to a season, although they currently sit in third in the Premier League following a 3-1 win over Norwich on Sunday.
