Alvaro Negredo

Football News

Alvaro Negredo, like his City counterpart Nasri, has had to battle to earn a starting role this season.

The £22 million arrival from Sevilla, is one of four world class strikers at the City of Manchester Stadium competing for two forward spots.

Argentina superstar Sergio Ageuro is seen as the club's first choice attacker, with Negredo, Edin Dzeko and fellow summer signing Stevan Jovetić battling for the chance to partner him.

But Negredo has done his chances no harm at the start of the season, after scoring three league goals in seven games.

The Spaniard started the first three games of the season on the City bench and scored twice after being introduced.

Goals during the 3-2 defeat to newly-promoted Cardiff City, and the 2-0 home win over fellow new-boys Hull, got the striker's season off to a fine start.

A starting role came in the uneventful 0-0 draw with Stoke, with three further starting births handed to Negrado by manager Manuel Pellegrini in the club's next three league fixtures.

But with only one goal in those games, the 28-year-old is by no means assured of his place in the team.
