Barcelona ace Javier Mascherano is wanted by Rafa Benitez at Napoli, according to the Daily Mirror

Mascherano, who has also been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks, played under Benitez in the Premier League at Liverpool and now the Spaniard wants to be reunited with the holding-midfield star.

And with the Napoli boss expected to be given as much as £34 million to spend in January, he has now set his sights on the potential £18m signing of Mascherano.

The Argentine ace has often been used as a centre-half at the Spanish outfit, but if he linked back up with Benitez, then his former coach may put him back in the midfield.

The Italian outfit have started the season well under Benitez and are unbeaten in their opening seven league games.

However, it's uncertain as to whether Arsene Wenger will make a move for the ace in January.
