Manchester United and City target, Andres Iniesta, has moved a step close to signing a new deal, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The Barcelona star has become a much sought after property after appearing reluctant to agree on a new long-term deal with the Spanish champions, with United and City both waiting in the wings.

Barcelona are rightly desperate to tie the World Cup winner to a new contract, but have thus far struggled to offer a package that their man is happy with.

However it has now emerged that the two parties have moved a step closer to an agreement, with Iniesta's current contract set to expire in 2015.

According to reports, the 29-year-old's agent met with the Vice President of Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, and the pair discussed the contract.

It is widely expected that Iniesta will sign a new deal, despite the interest from both Manchester clubs, as he's already admitted that he would like to remain at Barcelona if possible.
