Barcelona star Lionel Messi has returned to first team training following injury and set to feature in the Champions League next week, according to BBC Sport.

The 26-year-old has missed the Spanish champions' last two matches after suffering a thigh injury during the 2-0 La Liga win over Almeria three weeks ago.

The injury was a massive blow for Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino, having seen his star man score eight goals in six appearances already this season.

But the Argentine is now set to return at the weekend against Osasuna and, providing there is no problems there, will feature against Champions League rivals AC Milan three days later.

Messi was unavailable to join up with his national side ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay, and instead remained in Spain to recuperate.

After missing his side's 1-0 win over Celtic in Europe, he will be looking to add to the hat-trick he scored against Ajax in the first round of group matches last month.
