As England successfully negotiated their way past Poland to record a 2-0 victory at Wembley last night, Roy Hodgson booked his side's place at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and briefly allowed Three Lions fans to dream again of causing an upset in Rio next summer.

The likes of Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and co. will already be thinking about the possibility of taking their place in sporting history books as the first British players to win the World Cup since England's triumph way back in 1966.

If you needed any evidence to prove that winning IS everything, then look no further than the recent England fans' survey carried out by Plusnet earlier this month, which shows that the stars of yesteryear still come out on top in terms of popularity, compared to the current crop of players charged with bringing back glory from South America.

Of the present generation, captain Gerrard received the most support with 28 per cent of the midfielder vote, with Lampard second behind him with 23 per cent.

Rooney completed the top three, claiming 19 per cent of the striker poll, while Joe Hart and Ashley Cole were the only other existing players that feature, along with current coach Gary Neville.

Broken down by position, click through the tabs - above or below - to check out who Three Lions fans consider their favourite England goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, and striker, with the top five for each category listed.
