Top five: World Cup Premier League rejects (3)

Diego Forlan - Uraguay

Football News

Forlan is another of Manchester United's failed strikers.

The Uruguayan arrived from Argentinian club side Independiente in 2001, and touted as the next South American superstar.

The striker failed to score in his first season at United, going 18 games without a goal in the 01/02 season.

Six league goals in 25 appearances came the following season, with four league goals in 24 games the next year.

It is fair to say he hardly set the Premier League alight, and didn't turn into the goal machine Sir Alex Ferguson would of hoped.

He was allowed to leave for Villarreal in the summer of 2004, and like the previously mentioned Rossi, became a hit with the La Liga side.

Successfully periods at Atletico Madrid and current side Inter Milan followed.

Forlan, who has 104 caps for his nation, will join the likes of Liverpool star Luis Suarez in the Uruguay side that must beat Jordan in a World Cup play-off to progress to Brazil next summer.
