Arsene Wenger told fans at an annual meeting that they will be happy come May.

The Arsenal manager was addressing fans at the club's AGM, and spoke confidently about his side's chances of finishing the season with a trophy.

It was expected that the Gunners boss would come under-fire at the meeting, although the signing of Ozil - and the fact they sit top of the Premier League - calmed many of the fans.

There was, however, a small protest outside the stadium beforehand, with fan group 'the Black Scarf Movement' displaying banners asking 'where has our Arsenal gone?'

Wenger though remained calm and appeared pleased at the club's overall disposition.

Talking about Arsenal's chances of ending their eight year wait for a trophy, Wenger said:

"I am confident that at the end of May we will all be happy.

"We are top (of the table), in a very strong position, but at the end of November will give a much clearer indication of where everyone lies.

"We have a huge ambition to win the league this season."

The Arsenal boss pointed to last season's away victory at eventual champions Bayern Munich as a turning point.

"From the end of March to today, we have lost just one match, that created a huge emotion," Wenger is quoted as saying on BT Sport.

And the Frenchman also discussed wider issues at the club as he rounded up his speech:

"We were restricted financially and had to be strict, but we have come out of that.

"However, we have to defend our style of play and values, that comes from developing our own players, with youth policy and that should be core of our club.

"The future of Arsenal will rely on the quality of work we do inside, to scout and develop.

"We are respected all over the world for our values, we are not artificial.

"We will also look to buy proven quality - we did not need to scout to buy Ozil, it was just money.

"I am pleased that we have shown you we are not afraid to spend."

Wenger will be looking to maintain his side's good start to the season when Arsenal welcome Norwich to the Emirates this weekend.
