US college keeper scores worst own goal ever?

Major League Soccer has made major strides in recent times, with the American top flight now rightfully regarded as one of best leagues in the world.

One player who is unlikely to be gracing the MLS anytime soon is this goalkeeper at Fairfield however, after he conceded a truly shocking own goal against Iona College.

After watching his side take a 1-0 first-half lead through Jordan Ayris, the American stopper produced his second-half howler in the 72nd minute, when a Jordan Scarlett shot cannoned off the crossbar.

But, rather than catch the dropping ball, he proceeded to let it slip through his hands, hitting him in the face and rolling into the back of the net.

Wild celebrations followed in the way only Americans can, with a large foghorn blowing twice and players running from the sidelines to celebrate with Scarlett.

Things would get worse for the keeper, who conceded a second in the closing stages, meaning Fairfield slipped to a 2-1 defeat – their fourth loss of the season. At least this one wasn’t a goalkeeping nightmare!
