Fernando Torres backs Chelsea for quadruple

Fernando Torres has backed Chelsea to challenge on all fronts this season, suggesting a quadruple is possible.

Chelsea are currently sitting third in the table, two points behind joint leaders Liverpool and Arsenal, with inconsistent form marring the return of Jose Mourinho.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have suffered defeat in the Champions League to FC Basel whilst none of their trio of strikers - Demba Ba, Samuel Eto'o and Fernando Torres - have yet to score.

The Blues now face a tough run of games over a 10 day period seeing them face Cardiff, Schalke, Manchester City and Arsenal across three competitions.

Despite a slow start, Torres believes Chelsea have the squad to challenge for all four major trophies.

He told the Evening Standard: “To win everything and it can be realistic. We have a great squad and we have to think positively.

“The main thing is to go step by step. We can’t say we’re just going to focus on the Premier League and Champions League.

“We should just think about winning the next game, in winning the next three points, scoring goals, working hard and doing well when we have the chance.

“We want to finish with a trophy. The Premier League would be great, the Champions League even better, both of them massive and a few cups, why not?”

He also believes that it is far too early to pick out the true challengers for the Premier League and insists that we will only know for sure at the half way point.

He continued: “We’ll see where we are in January. That will give you a clearer idea if you will be fighting for the Premier League but we are ready to win it, of course.

“It’s very difficult. The league is different than any other. It’s more competitive, there are not just two or three teams, there are five or six all with the chance if not to win, to qualify for the Champions League.”
