It is always tinged with a little bit of guilt but sometimes there is nothing one can do except chuckle when seeing a moment as calamitous as that produced by Internacional star Jackson on Sunday.

Own goals are rarely be the entire fault of the erring player, with an unfortunate deflection from close range probably the most likely occurrence, but this level of blundering can only be described as gross Keystone Coppery.

Scoring an own goal like this one wold be bad enough, but doing it against your fiercest local rivals really takes the biscuit.

The Porto Alegre derby between Internacional and Gremio was going rather well for the home side as the game approached half time, with Willians' fourth minute goal making the difference.

Step forward Jackson to ruin everything a bring the away side right back into it; a speculative ball was lumped forward towards the Internacional area and a Gremio striker was bearing down on it.

There should have been no worries though, as both Jackson and his goalkeeper Dida were in good positions to deal with it. Whether it was lack of communication or a temporary brain freeze who knows, but the 23-year-old defender decided to poke a foot at it.

Unfortunately, this sent the ball flying into the top corner past the helpless Dida and made the match all square going in at half time. It was nearly even more damaging as a revitalised Gremio took the lead not long after the break and it required an Andres D'Alessandro penalty to salvage a point.
