Ashley Cole has been ruled out of Chelsea's Champions League encounter against Schalke, according to Four Four Two.
The 32-year-old left-back was ruled out of England's two all-important World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Poland due to a rib injury he picked up against Norwich City.
Cole missed Chelsea's 4-1 win against Cardiff City but was expected to make his comeback in Tuesday night's encounter between the Blues and German side Schalke.
However Cole has remained in England to work on his fitness ahead of Chelsea's clash against Premier League rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
Cole's deputy Ryan Bertrand, who this week hailed the qualities of Mourinho, is likely to be given the nod in Cole's absence.
Meanwhile, Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle has made the trip to his native Germany after recovering from a muscle injury.
Mourinho's side, who have three points from two games, are currently third in Group E.
