Wayne Rooney is eager for Manchester United to return to winning ways by securing three points against Real Sociedad in Wednesday night's Champions League Group A encounter.

David Moyes' have triumphed in only one of their last four fixtures in all competitions, and find themselves some seven points behind leaders Arsenal in the Premier League.

Rooney, though, hopes that a return to European football will prove to be just the tonic for Manchester United, and is excited by the prospect of another evening outing at Old Trafford.

"Looking forward to the Champions League tomorrow against Real Sociedad, big nights like these under the floodlights are always special," Rooney posted on his official Facebook page.

"Hopefully we can get back to winning ways!"

Manchester United are level on points with Shakhtar Donetsk at the top of Group A after two games, with the Premier League champions' last outing a 1-1 draw in Ukraine earlier this month.

Following the meeting with Real Sociedad, Manchester United face the return trip to Spain on November 5, before meeting Bayer Leverkusen, who they beat 4-2 at Old Trafford, three weeks later.
