Arsene Wenger says he is confident he can build another team capable of winning the Premier League.

The Frenchman's time at Arsenal clocked over to 17 years this month, during of which he has won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups.

He has, however, not won anything since 2005 and has seen a number of his promising teams broken down by untimely transfers.

Arsenal are finally looking capable of challenging for honours again and are two points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Wenger has now revealed that he remains confident that he can build a title-winning side but admits time is in short supply.

He told reporters: “I can build another new team, but I haven’t got 17 years that’s for sure.

“I can build another team because in 17 years I had a few teams, but at the minute I’m looking at the short-term. I will make a decision about the little-bit-longer term later.

“We have always had teams who played good football, but you can play very well for 37 championship games and lose the decisive 38th game. You will then forget the 37 games you played well."

The signing of Mesut Ozil confirms that Wenger is ready to commit to the short-term.

Ozil was brought in for a club record fee of £42.5m on transfer deadline day, bringing an end to Wenger's policy of buying cheap and building his own stars.

Wenger has also revealed that he is always focused on enjoying life day-to-day rather than looking at what people will think of him in the future.

He said: “For me, happiness in life is a succession of happy moments. Afterwards you’re judged on your global achievements, but life is not like that day to day.

“You work every day because you have happy moments. After that people will say, ‘you were a good or bad journalist,’ I don’t know. But what’s important in your life is that you have happy moments. And for me the games are a succession of possible happy moments.

“Of course afterwards you want people to look back and say ‘that was a fantastic season’ but that will be decided in May. Before that let’s experience some quality.”
