Former Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham defender William Gallas has signed a one-year deal with Australian A-League club Perth Glory, reports The Independent.
The ex-France international allegedly turned down offers from Major League Soccer, the Far East and the Gulf to become the first Frenchman to play in the Australian top-flight.
Gallas explained the Western Australian club's ambitious future plans were a decisive factor in his choice to sign with them.
"After speaking to (manager) Alistair Edwards and (chief executive) Jason Brewer, the passion and ambition in the voices of both gentlemen enticed me to this new challenge in Australia," the 36-year-old said in a statement.
The defender is hoping for instant success with his new employers and teammates, targeting the 2013/2014 A-League title.
"I look forward to wearing with pride the jersey of Perth Glory for this season," Gallas said.
"I hope to help my new team-mates and club achieve success in this season and hope to help deliver to the fans of Perth the championship they are looking for.
"I look forward to this new challenge and hope to excite the fans."
Perth Glory chief executive Jason Brewer is equally thrilled to welcome a player of his calibre to the squad, citing his illustrious club and international experience as a positive asset.
"What better player in world football to bring to Western Australia than someone with 84 caps for one of the best footballing nations in the world?" he said.
"William Gallas has played at the highest level in some of the most intense rivalries in the world, so the leadership he can provide to our up-and-coming younger players will be invaluable."
The two-time World Cup competitor with France, who won consecutive Premier League titles during his time with Chelsea, retired from international football in 2011 before his last club Tottenham released him last June.
