Arsenal have signed goalkeeper Matt Macey from Bristol Rovers, the League Two club have confirmed on their official Twitter account.

The 18-year-old has signed a permanent deal after impressing while on trial at the Emirates Stadium last month.

The Gunners have paid £100,000 in compensation to Bristol Rovers, according to the Metro, for the goalkeeper who was also on the radar of several Championship clubs and Everton.

However, Arsenal have won the race to sign the 6ft 6in 'keeper, who has signed a four-year deal with the Gunners.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was in the market for another goalkeeper during the summer, but Macey is unlikely to challenge Wojciech Szczesny for a first-team place for at least another couple of years.

The youngster also has Lukasz Fabianski and loanee Emiliano Viviano ahead of him in the pecking order, although for the time being Macey is likely to continue learning his trade with the Arsenal U21 side.
