As reported by ESPN, the St Louis Rams have contacted Brett Favre about a potential return but have been declined.
The Rams are desperate after losing quarterback Sam Bradford for the year after he tore his ACL last week but we didn’t realise they had reach this level of desperation.
Favre hasn’t played since late 2010 and even though he has in the past seemed immune to age and injury the man is 44 years old and has spent over two years riding his lawnmower on his farm.
It seems illogical for the Rams to expect Favre to come back and rescue their season. It’s a telling sign that the Rams have no faith in back-up Kellen Clemons and the current crop of free agent quarterbacks.
Whilst it’s been a while since we’ve had to contemplate the thought of Favre returning from retirement (again), it isn’t a prospect without interest, however illogical it would have been.
No one has the flair for the dramatic like number 4. He spent 20 years exciting NFL fans and even though he wore out his welcome there isn’t a single NFL fan that would have missed his return if he had chosen to play for the Rams.
The Rams will now have to turn to plan B after Favre’s turned them down, but after plan A it seems like Rams are out of ideas. Unless they can find Kurt Warner’s phone number…
