Liverpool have upped their interest in the race to sign Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya, according to the Daily Star.
Montoya, who has also been linked with a move to Premier League leaders Arsenal, faces an uncertain future at the Nou Camp as his contract runs out at the end of the season.
After failing to cement a place in the Catalans side, it now looks possible he will depart the club.
And now Brendan Rodgers' side are ready to put their case forward in order to bring him to Merseyside.
However, the Reds face strong competition from around Europe for the 22-year-old's signature, with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Napoli all monitoring the situation.
Sources in Spain have suggested that the star is open to a move to Anfield and could join Rodgers' revolution if he departs the Spanish outfit.
Montoya would have to battle with Glen Johnson for Liverpool's right-back position, should he complete a move to the club.
