Arsenal are planning a January move for West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu, reports the Daily Mirror.

The 26-year-old has been watched by the north London club's scouts in recent weeks, and will now be the subject of a £7million bid when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add another midfield enforcer, having seen how positive an impact Mathieu Flamini has had, since returning to the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer in the summer.

With no other player in the same mould as the Frenchman, Wenger hopes to bring in Mulumbu as an alternative option, to keep his side's 2013/14 Premier League title charge on track.

However, Arsenal might find it difficult to convince the Baggies to sell the Democratic Republic of Congo international, after he signed a new contract at The Hawthorns back in August.

The Gunners maintained their place at the top of the table, following a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
