Liverpool lead Premier League rivals in race for AC Milan striker

Liverpool are leading Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign AC Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy, reports the Daily Star.

The 20-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the San Siro, after falling down the first-team pecking order since the arrival of Mario Balotelli.

El Shaarawy burst onto the scene at Milan, scoring 16 goals in Serie 'A' in 2012/13, but has been forced to settle for a place on the bench, in Massimiliano Allegri's side so far this campaign.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to hand the Italy international an escape route to Anfield, as he looks to strengthen his Merseyside squad when the transfer window reopens in January.

Arsene Wenger has also been credited with an interest in bringing El Shaarawy to Arsenal in the New Year, as have the Gunners' north London rivals, Spurs.

Chelsea complete the pack of Premier League admirers, with Jose Mourinho another fan of the talented young starlet.

However moves to Stamford Bridge, White Hart Lane, or the Emirates appear unlikely, with Liverpool the current frontrunners for the £25million-rated striker's signature.
