Liverpool are reportedly set to battle Premier League rivals Everton and Newcastle for the signature of Atletico Madrid star Adrian.

The 25-year-old Spanish playmaker has been targeted by the English sides after being made available for a cut-price £8million fee in January.

The forward, who has two Spain caps to his name, has seen his chances at the Estadio Vicente Calderón limited this season since the summer arrival of former Barcelona star David Villa.

Everton have been linked with the former Malaga man in the past, but are now set to do battle with their Merseyside rivals for the Spaniard.

Adrian, who won a move to Atletico in 2011 after impressing whilst with Deportivo La Coruna, only managed three league goals last season but could be set to reignite his career in England.

Liverpool have already brought two Spanish strikers to the club this season - with Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto joining from Celta and Sevilla respectively.

Should Adrian join the Reds he will complete a trio of Spaniards competing against in-form striker Luis Suarez and Daniel Strurridge for a starting role at Anfield.
