Arsenal star chased by Champions League duo

Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has emerged as a potential transfer target for both Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, according to reports in Spain cited by talkSPORT.

28-year-old Podolski, who arrived in North London from Bundesliga outfit FC Koln for a fee believed to be in the region of £11 million last summer, impressed in his first season in the Premier League but has found first-team opportunities limited during the early stages of the 2013/14 campaign due to a troublesome hamstring problem.

During his absence, Arsenal have performed admirably and currently sit top of the Premier League table following a hard-fought 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in Saturday's early kick-off.

According to reports in El Mundo Deportivo cited by talkSPORT, fellow Champions League duo Atletico and Dortmund - the latter of whom beat Arsenal 2-1 thanks to a late Robert Lewandowski volley last week - are tracking Podolski ahead of possible moves when the window re-opens for business during January.

Given the paucity of options available to long-serving Gunners boss Arsene Wenger aside from formidable Frenchman Olivier Giroud, it seems somewhat unlikely that Podolski would be allowed depart the Emirates Stadium unless adequate alternatives are purchased.
