England batsman Kevin Pietersen had something extra to celebrate as he landed in Australia on Sunday after he passed one million fans on the social networking site Facebook.

The destructive star is the most active England player on social media which also includes his official Twitter and Instagram accounts where he also reveals exclusive content that cannot be found anywhere else.

Most recently Pietersen was engaged in conversation with England footballer Jack Wilshire on Twitter surrounding the eligibility row around sportsman playing for the country.

The outspoken four time Ashes winner is also approaching 1.4 million followers on Twitter while has over 30,000 followers on Instagram with each platform offering different unique content.

Last week England’s leading run scorer in all formats of the game posted a picture on Facebook of himself packing for Australia which over 20,000 people ‘liked’ with over 500 good luck messages as he engaged with his fans.

After he finished the net session this morning in Perth, Pietersen posed with a piece of paper (above) to thank the fans for the encouragment which included his autograph along with the following caption for the photograph:

“Just realised since landing in Perth I've smashed past 1 MILLION fans on Facebook.. Thanks for all the support!!!”

The Surrey star has seen his Facebook page grow by around 450,000 since the start of the 2013 Ashes and if that progression continues that could be KP’s largest social media platform, taking over from Twitter.

Pietersen and his team mates are just days away from the opening warm up game as they face Western Australia Chairman’s XI on Thursday with a start of 2.30am GMT.

England then face a further two games to prepare themselves for the opening Ashes Test which gets under way at midnight on Wednesday 21st November at Brisbane.

One thing is for sure and that is Pietersen will keep his keen fans updated throughout the tour down under.
