There are similarities between the emergence of Adnan Januzaj and former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, according to ex-Old Trafford utility man Quinton Fortune.
Januzaj has been one of the few bright spots in a stuttering start to David Moyes' first season in charge after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson, with three defeats in eight Premier League matches seeing the Red Devils fall eight points behind leaders Arsenal.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene by scoring twice in his first league start to secure a 2-1 comeback win for Manchester United over Sunderland a couple of weeks ago.
Januzaj was impressive once again in the 4-0 Capital One Cup win over Norwich City on Tuesday night and is showing signs he could be an important fixture in the Manchester United team for years to come.
Fortune believes he can see some striking similarities between the young Belgium-born forward and Cristiano Ronaldo, most notably his desire to succeed and an absolute belief in himself.
If Adnan can follow what Ronaldo did it would be unbelievable for himself and the club," he is quoted as saying by the Belfast Telegraph.
"Adnan has exactly the same mentality (as Ronaldo). I don't think Ronaldo lacks confidence, and that is why he is one of the best players in the world.
"Adnan still has a long way to go, he has had a fantastic start though and I wish him the best.
"The self-belief and confidence set him apart from the other young players I saw at United a couple of years ago and even though he is playing at a higher level now, he has the same mentality."
Januzaj could be key to Moyes' side turning their fortunes around for the remainder of the season as they attempt to defend the Premier League title they won so dominantly last season.
