It's become an annual occurrence that big-name players are linked with big-money moves to big-status clubs.

And whilst the stories may receive big levels of attention, the realistic chances of them actually happening are usually fairly small.

However that's not to say that virtually every football fan on the planet doesn't enjoy a bit of unbelievable speculation from time to time, and this year the rumour mill has been sent into overdrive.

When high-profile players depart clubs on a whim it's usually a fairly shocking affair for all involved, but it does stand to prove that in the modern game it's become an unheard of rarity for a player to actually pledge their unerring allegiance to one team for the entirety of their careers, and follow through with the promise.
