Arsenal are reported to be in the running to sign Japanese midfielder Yoichiro Kakitani, but the Premier League leaders are set to be contested by Inter Milan and Galatasaray in their pursuit of the player.

According to talkSPORT, the Gunners are monitoring the progress of the 23-year-old, who has found the net on 17 occasions for Cerezo Osaka in the J-League so far this season.

Arsenal, however, are not the only club being credited with interest in Kakitani, with Inter and Galatasaray too keeping tabs on the performances of the Japan international.

Kakatani has scored three times in only five appearances for his country, and Arsenal may have to act fast if they harbour any serious ambition to keep the player from the clutches of their rivals.

The Gunners are expected to be busy in the January transfer window and, it would appear, Kakitani could be one of several targets for the club's manager Arsene Wenger when he dips into the market once more.

Wenger demonstrated his new-found intent during the summer transfer window, during which Mesut Özil arrived at the Emirates Stadium in a club record deal worth in the region of £42.5 million.

The acquisition of Kakitani may not represent an signing as significant as that, it would be one surely capable of exciting the Arsenal faithful.
