On-loan Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina was watched by Barcelona technical secretary Albert Valentin during Napoli's Champions League match against Marseille last week, according to Spanish publication El Mundo Deportivo.

The 31-year-old - who has been reunited with former Reds boss Rafa Benitez at Stadio San Paolo - has been heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou at the end of his season-long loan spell in Italy.

Reina's future at Anfield is almost certainly over, since the day that Brendan Rodgers opted to sign Simon Mignolet from Sunderland.

Barcelona are on the lookout for a replacement for current first-choice 'keeper Victor Valdes, after the Spain international made clear his intention to quit the Primera Division club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Gerardo Martino is understood to be considering a number of different options, but sent the Blaugrana board member to run the rule over Liverpool loanee Reina in France.
