Chelsea defender Daniel Pappoe has returned to the club following a loan spell at Colchester United.

The 19-year-old defender joined the U’s in July, and was set to remain at the Colchester Community Stadium until January 12th.

However, the youngster is one of a number of players to be struck down by injury at the League One club, and returns to Stamford Bridge after making just two senior appearances.

“Dan was extremely unlucky with his injuries and it was best for all parties for him to return to Chelsea,” said manager Joe Dunne, according to the Daily Gazette.

Pappoe has been with the Blues since joining the club’s academy at U12 level, but is yet to make a senior appearance for the club.

The Ghanaian youth international has struggled with injuries in recent times, missing large parts of the past two seasons. The latest setback will be another major blow in his developing career.

On the pitch, his two-game spell with the U’s wasn’t particularly productive either, with the teenager being sent-off just four minutes after coming on for his debut.

He will hope for better at Chelsea if the opportunity to represent Jose Mourinho's first team ever arises.
