Arsene Wenger declined the chance to rule out a renewed attempt to sign Luis Suarez when the transfer window reopens.

The Gunners face Suarez for the first time since their failed bid to sign him on Saturday afternoon when Liverpool travel to the Emirates.

Wenger had several bids for the Uruguayan striker turned down in the summer, culminating in a £40m plus £1 bid that was believed to be enough to trigger a release clause for the player.

That information turned out to be untrue and Suarez stayed at Liverpool where he has since formed a sensational partnership with Daniel Sturridge.

However, Arsenal have been linked with a renewed bid for Suarez and Wenger has refused to rule out the possibility.

When asked by reporters about the prospect of a new bid Wenger could only offer: "I am not focused on that now, 24 hours before this game.

"You [the media] made it [Suarez bids] public. I didn't make anything public.

"Look, he plays for Liverpool and at the moment he is doing very well. What is important for me is players who play for Arsenal and not those who could play for Arsenal. What is important is the players who will play against Luis Suarez."

Wenger remained evasive when questioned over Arsenal's moral fibre when bidding for Suarez, after some Gunners fans questioned his pursuit of a player with such a poor disciplinary record.

"We have high moral ground and of course we take information about the moral level of the players and when there are any restrictions, we do not buy the players," said Wenger.

"That is a debate I won't go into now. It's not the right place before the game to speak about it.

"The details of all that will maybe come out one day. Maybe not in my book, but in somebody else's book."
