David Beckham wants Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard to be the first major recruits for his Miami MLS side, reports the Daily Mail.

The former Manchester United player is reportedly close to completing a deal to create a new MLS side and has chosen the Florida city as the location.

The BBC reports that Beckham bought the franchise off MLS for £15.6m and completes a clause inserted in to his contract when he first joined LA Galaxy in 2007.

He is now looking to seal some major transfers for the new team and Lampard and Ferdinand are top of Beckham's list.

Ferdinand, 34, is in the last year of his contract at Old Trafford and is yet to be offered the chance to stay at Old Trafford by David Moyes.

As the former England star struggles for fitness, it is not yet known whether Moyes has the intention of offering him a new deal.

But Manchester United's veteran defender could benefit from the move as he looks to develop his media and leisure businesses.

Lampard was reportedly offered the chance to cross the atlantic last season with LA Galaxy ready to match his Chelsea wages.

Chelsea only offered their all-time top scorer a new one year deal late on in the season as his impressive goal scoring form continued to keep a stuttering Blues side afloat.

It is thought the appointment of Jose Mourinho played a key part in keeping Lampard at Stamford Bridge.
