Liverpool target Daniel Amartey has confirmed that he in talks with the Merseyside club over a January move to Anfield, according to the Daily Star.

The highly rated 18-year-old has been eyed by a number of clubs across Europe, but it's the Reds who have expressed their clear intent to sign him.

Amartey has been in impressive form this season for Swedish outfit Djurgarden IF and is seen as an ideal addition to Liverpool's defence by manager Brendan Rodgers.

It is thought that it will cost the Reds around £1.5million to bring the centre-back to the Premier League, and according to the young Ghanian talks are very much underway concerning a move in the winter transfer window.

"I have been in contact with the Liverpool management," he said.

"I hope we can sort a transfer out – it’s a great club to play for."

Amartey, who can also play as a central midfielder, has emerged as one of the key targets for Rodgers in January, and the news that negotiations are already in place will no doubt be welcomed by the Liverpool faithful.
