Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has resolved to sign a new striker in the January transfer window - and French newspaper Le 10 Sport has claimed Liverpool star Luis Suarez is towards the top of his shopping list.

The Stamford Bridge boss tried to bring the £55m-rated Suarez to the club over the summer, but Liverpool held firm and the Uruguayan stayed at Anfield.

But the report claims Chelsea may look to renew their interest in the winter window. The Blues drew a blank against Newcastle - and Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o have just two Premier League goals between them this season.

The Daily Mail claims the 2-0 defeat to Alan Pardew's side has convinced Mourinho that he needs attacking reinforcements at the earliest opportunity.

Ba has been linked with a move to West Ham, while Eto'o and Torres - the two first-choice strikers so far this term - have struggled for goals in the league.

Chelsea are already five points behind Arsenal with Brazilian playmaker Oscar their top scorer with four goals.

Over the summer the Blues were linked with several big-name forwards, including Suarez, Robert Lewandowski and Wayne Rooney.

In the end, Mourinho signed Eto'o from Anzhi but the Cameroonian international has struggled to get up to speed in the Premier League.

Following interest from Chelsea and Arsenal over the summer, Suarez initially publicly requested to speak to interested clubs. But the Liverpool hierarchy convinced him to stay and the Reds frontman has been in superb form since returning from his 10-match ban.

The Liverpool star has six goals in his first five appearances this term.
