John Terry believes Jose Mourinho was right to make a number of changes to the Chelsea side that beat Schalke last night.

The Blues responded to their defeat at Newcastle by beating the German outfit 3-0 at Stamford Bridge as Mourinho made six changes to his side and Terry believes his manager was right to mix things up.

After the victory, the Blues captain said: “It was a good win and a good response after the weekend.

“We were bitterly disappointed going up to Newcastle and dropping three points so we wanted to respond. The result pleases us most because it puts us in the driving seat of the group.

Terry has praised the Chelsea stars that came into the team last night and took their chance in the limelight.

The Blues skipper continued by saying: “Of course the players left out were disappointed but the ones that have come in have taken their opportunity.

“The manager changed it about a bit and the way the lads have responded will have given him food for thought for the next game.

“That’s what it’s all about at this level.

“We’ve got so many games coming in the league and the Champions League that it’s important we’re all fighting together — and yesterday showed we are.”

Chelsea are now closing in on the knockout stages of the Champions League as they now sit on nine points at the top of group A, three ahead of Schalke, who sit in second place.

The Blues will now turn their attention back to the Premier League as they play host to West Brom this weekend.

Mourinho may decided to keep a similar team that impressed in the Champions League last night.
