Arsenal produced a brilliant victory in Germany as they gained an invaluable three points against Borussia Dortmund.
The game started out slowly as the two sides seemed tentative in a pivotal Group F clash. Both teams enjoyed short spells of possession without either side taking the bull by the horns.
As the first half progressed however, it was the German side that began to threaten, with Neven Subotic hooking a volley from a corner just past the post in the 17th minute.
Dortmund then had arguably their best chance of the game when Henrikh Mkhitaryan found himself in acres of space on the edge of the 18-yard box in the 37th minute, but the ball bobbled in front of him slightly and he fired wide.
Arsenal defended well in the first half, but had no shots on the Dortmund goal, despite having the better of the possession. The second half started as the first ended for the Gunners, with the Germans really threatening to score.
On the 50th minute, Marco Reus found himself in lots of space in the box for a free header but Wojciech Szczesny tipped the ball around the post.
Dortmund continued pressing hard for the goal before Arsenal finally managed to stem the tide and keep the ball in the Dortmund half for a string of passes for a few minutes.
What turned out to be the killer blow then came through Aaron Ramsey, as Mesut Ozil's cross on the 62nd minute was headed back into the danger area by Olivier Giroud for Arsenal's Welsh talisman to head the ball past Roman Weidenfeller with the Gunners first attempt on goal in the match.
The goal came against the run of play, and Dortmund looked to hit back instantly. The Black and Yellows had a goal disallowed before Marco Reus missed a brilliant chance as he completely missed a ball across the face of goal that he just had to tap in on 64 minutes.
Arsenal then had three brilliant chances as the game opened up. Ramsey came so close to adding his second of the night, only to be denied by Weidenfeller's thigh, before a couple of scrambles resulted in hectic Dortmund clearances.
As the game wore down, Arsenal began to take control and dictate the flow of the game. Dortmund didn't threaten the Arsenal goal for the rest of the match as Arsenal used their vastly improved defence to see out what is a historic win for the club.
Aaron Ramsey's incredible goalscoring form continued as his strike sent the Arsenal fans into delirium. Arsenal's brilliant start to the season is still going at full pace and shows no signs of letting down as the Gunners now find themselves in great position in Group F of this year's Champions League.
