Dennis Schroder has been handed a one match suspension after striking Sacramento Kings star DeMarcus Cousins in the groin, reports ESPN

The Atlanta Hawks rookie guard was not called up for the striker during play, however the NBA have now announced he will face a one game ban.

The strike took place in Atalanta's 105-100 win over over the Kings on Tuesday and after the incident, Cousins suggested he was being punished for his previous behaviour.

After the match took place, Cousins told reporters: "I took a cheap shot to my lower area. They (the refs) just blew it off. I guess because it was me. But as soon as something happens on the other end, because it's me, they run to the camera."

But now Schroder has been punished for the strike and will now miss his sides game against the Denver Nuggets.

He will hope to be back in action for the Hawks when they take on the Orlando Magic on Sunday.

The Hawks will be hoping to improve on their inconsistent start to the Southeast Division over the coming weeks and Schroder may well play an integral part.
