Brendan Rodgers insists that Jordan Henderson's versatility makes him perfect for England's World Cup squad.
Henderson has been recalled to the England squad for the upcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany to be played at Wembley this month.
The 23-year-old has five caps for England but has not featured for the team in 18 months after indifferent form saw him move back to the under-21 set up.
But after impressing at Anfield so far this season, Henderson has earned a call up and Rodgers believes he will prove to be an invaluable asset if taken to the World Cup next summer.
"It's a big credit to him that I have been able to play in a couple of positions because he is that type of player that he can play in those positions really well," Rodgers is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
"If you are going to a World Cup you need players who can play in a number of positions. He can do that.
"He has shown this season in a wing-back role and a centre-midfield role how versatile he is. He always adds something. He has tremendous work-rate.
"As each game goes on, he is getting better and better, tactically he has improved, physically he is very good, he can run and run and he is gaining confidence from playing with good players as well so he can make a lot of improvements and become a really top player."
Liverpool's midfield has come in for criticism following their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in which Henderson, Steven Gerrard and Lucas Leiva failed to support Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge in attack.
However, Rodgers has put that inability down to Arsenal's quality and has praised his midfield for their work rate.
"We have got very good players and in that game Arsenal had outstanding ability," he added.
"In fairness to Steven and Lucas they worked very hard. Steven picked up an injury (to his hip) and struggled in that part of the game because of that.
"There's no doubt in the modern game you have to have that mobility in midfield but you also need the balance.
"You also need players who are technically good, can play and can participate in the game tactically and of course the modern game gets quicker every year.
"That is an area you need mobility in and for us, going forward, it is something, as with every area, we will try to improve."
