Manchester United should sign Saido Berahino

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs continues to defy the odds by performing season after season - despite the fact that the Welshman turns 40 at the end of the month.

Giggs has been used sparingly over the past couple of seasons as despite the midfielder's high level of fitness, the 39-year-old is no longer able to play three games a week.

Manchester United boss David Moyes made the decision to name him on his coaching staff that has made him one step closer to completing the transition between player and coach.

Giggs' current contract runs out at the end of the season and it seems as though the player is yet to decide if he is going to hang up his boots at the end of the season.

Whatever the decision, Manchester United boss Moyes is probably going to have to sign a new winger either in January or next summer.

Moyes' current orthodox wide options are Nani, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia and Wilfried Zaha.

However none of the aforementioned names have yet to hit the heights of Giggs.

Nani has been inconsistent throughout his Manchester United, Young has struggled to replicate his Aston Villa form and Valencia is a right-sided player.

Zaha, on the other hand, has the potential to be a superb winger but is also more suited to playing on the right wing.

Moyes is therefore short of an out and out left winger, who is comfortable of attacking the opposing full-back, without having to constantly cut in to deliver a cross or shot on their stronger right foot.

A player who has exactly those traits is West Brom's Saido Berahino.

The 20-year-old has made a huge impression on the Premier League this season, with crucial goals against Arsenal and Manchester United being the highlight of his season so far.

Berahino, who is currently on a mere £850-per-week contract, is yet to commit his long-term future to West Brom.

His contract situation has alerted the attention of Chelsea, who are said to be willing to pay £5m for the England Under-21 starlet.

However I think a move to Manchester United would be a better move for Berahino, as he could learn from the likes of Giggs and could easily worm his way into Moyes' first-team plans.

Berahino would also allow both Adnan Januzaj and Shinji Kagawa to play in their favoured roles.

Manchester United would be stupid not to at least compete with Chelsea for the winger's signature.
