Lionel Messi doesn't need the Premier League

First things first, it would be quite incredible to see Lionel Messi in the Premier League.

Watching the world's greatest player playing for any of England's elite clubs would be a dream come true for many. And, after he's been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, it has got some fans dreaming of what could be.

However, the reality is, he will never depart Barcelona and no matter what some may say, he doesn't need to. Arguments will forever be made that the Argentine superstar needs to prove himself in another league - not just La Liga - and some will suggest that the little maestro needs to star without the likes of Andres Iniesta and Xavi supplying him.

Again, these arguments would be wrong.

Messi has proved time-and-time again that he is the best player on the planet, and may well go down as the greatest ever player to live. He has not just been a goal-scoring star in La Liga, he is also a superstar in Europe and has caused havoc in the Champions League for a number of years.

He's been the catalyst to Barcelona's great success in recent years. The Catalans have put together one of the world's greatest ever sides and a huge part of that has been the influence of Lionel Messi.

A scorer of the most ridiculous goals, Messi possesses everything - he can do anything. He's made defenders all around Europe look silly for many, many years and he will continue to do that for a number of years yet.

Having already broken a number of records in La Liga and at Barcelona, he will continue to do that in the future. At just 26-years-old, it's scary to think he hasn't even reached his prime.
He could well win his fifth Ballon d'Or award in a row next year, so to say Messi could do with a fresh start or a new challenge is laughable, to say the least.

He has a new challenge at Barcelona anyway. The Catalans have been knocked off their perch as the kings of Europe. Bayern Munich now hold that crown and Messi and Co. will be desperate to prove Barca are still a formidable force.

Additionally, Messi still has Cristiano Ronaldo and now Gareth Bale to deal with in La Liga, and he will also take great joy in working and playing alongside Neymar.

The challenges at Barcelona will never end.

He will continue to thrill, continue to thrive, continue to shine and continue to succeed in La Liga, at Barcelona. So, I'm sorry Chelsea or any other club that think they may one day prize Messi away from the Nou Camp, it's just not going to happen.
