Alan Pardew has praised the form of goalkeeper Tim Krul after he delivered a man-of-the-match performance on Sunday. A string of impressive reflex saves kept his side ahead and secured his team the points after Loic Remy scored the game’s only goal.
After the game, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew insisted that Krul should be the first choice for Holland in their upcoming international fixtures:
“I think he’s the best Dutch goalkeeper there is and he should be their number one, and he’s proved that today.”
Pardew praised his goalkeeper for stepping up his performance in Newcastle’s trip to White Hart Lane, and for his part in their impressive victory:
“We haven’t really needed a big performance from him this year because our defending has been good, so it’s brilliant he’s responded on the day we had more shots against us than maybe any other day of the season.”
“It was a fabulous win,” he added. “It was a strange sort of game really. In the first half I thought Spurs looked a bit lethargic from the Europa League. That’s the big problem. It’s the third game they’ve lost on the back of a Europa League game and they looked a bit slow in their thinking and with their passing.
“We were good and deserved the lead but in the second half they tuned up the heat and got themselves going and we really were just hanging on then and had to show we can defend well and our spirit is high because you don’t come away with a 1-0 unless you’ve got that.
“In the last five or six weeks we’ve been good and hopefully we can capitalise on that, but we won’t get carried away. Our fans want a committed performance and a bit of quality and we showed both sides of that today.”
Newcastle’s win over Tottenham moves the Magpies into the Premier League’s top 10 ahead of their next game against Norwich City.
