Premier League champions Manchester United have been named as the most influential football club brand in the world, ahead of rivals Liverpool, Chelsea and La Liga champions FC Barcelona.
The Red Devils finished second in the Licensing.biz Power List, which was voted for by a panel of independent judges, behind the London 2012 Olympic Games as the most influential brand in sport.
“It is a reflection of the properties which the industry itself believes have made the most impact over the past 12 months,” the website's editor Samantha Loveday commented.
United were hailed as "the only truly global British football brand" by one judge following the club's 1-0 victory over Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday, while they were praised for their significant commercial presence and ability to maximise retail partnerships.
Another judge was quoted by the Independent as saying: “You can't argue with that success and it is genuinely international.”
Manchester United's fierce rivals Liverpool are fifth on the list, behind England Rugby and Wimbledon.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona are ranked sixth, one place ahead of Chelsea who are tied alongside the NBA.
The Premier League is only ranked tenth, alongside Arsenal, while Tottenham and Manchester City are placed 16th and 21st, respectively.
