Manchester United have been told they should be doing all they can to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan as he is exactly what they need to reclaim their Premier League title.

Former head coach under Sir Alex Ferguson, Rene Meulensteen, was doing a Twitter Q&A when he was asked who he thinks Manchester United need to add to the middle of the park.

The Dutchman responded with Gundogan, which will be taken by many as an indicator as to whom the Old Trafford club will target for their next transfer swoop.

Manchester United have been credited with an interest in the Germany international before, though Real Madrid and Arsenal have also been linked with a move for him.

Meulensteen left Old Trafford after David Moyes succeeded Ferguson and he admitted in the Q&A that he missed his old job, which was to take the sessions at Manchester United's Carrington training complex.
